BLM Greenlights Easley Solar Project in Riverside County, Advancing Clean Energy Goals
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has issued a right-of-way grant for the Easley Solar Project, a renewable energy initiative that will deliver up to 390 megawatts (MW) of solar energy and 650 MW of battery storage across 2,700 acres of public and 990 acres of private lands in Riverside County. Aspen Environmental Group managed the NEPA review process, ensuring the project met federal standards while minimizing environmental impacts. Aspen also prepared the CEQA Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for the project; Riverside County certified the EIR and approved by Riverside County in August 2023.
The project will add $305 million into the local economy, create 530 construction jobs, and provide 10 permanent roles. It includes a solar array, battery storage, and a 7.5-mile generation-tie line connecting to Southern California Edison’s Red Bluff Substation. Aligned with the Desert Renewable Energy Conservation Plan, the Easley Solar Project balances energy development with ecosystem protection. It also supports the Biden-Harris administration’s clean energy goals, adding to over 32 gigawatts of renewable capacity approved on public lands to power 15 million homes.
The BLM’s approval follows extensive environmental analysis, with documents available on the BLM National NEPA Register. Easley Solar is set to become a model for sustainable energy development, advancing California’s clean energy future and national climate goals.
